BUILDER NUMBER 1

After much searching we decided upon the Zenith by M******n what Aam especially liked where the huge WIR and the Butlers pantry.

So after much discussion with the sales person about what facade we wanted, could they accommodate my special needs (I have restricted mobility and use a powered wheelchair) in regards to structural changes, and whether they would allow other trades people on site (Air Conditioning, Home Theatre installers) we paid our deposit in December '06.

In February '07 when in to their Studio 501 to go through our colour selections. It was during this time that we found out that many of the things that we where expecting they could not or would not provide IE:-
Kitchen Appliances of our choice
Level Access from Garage to house
Level Access from Alfressco
Wood feature to front of house (would only provide painted hardiboard)
Would not allow our preferred AC company site access
Would not allow our preferred Home Theatre installer site access

This was after we had been assured that all these things would be available by the sales person at the Display. If we wished to continue we would have to use their preferred suppliers or install extras after handover.

We decided to continue with them although we were not best pleased!

2 weeks later we were presented with the preliminary contract and after seeing how much all the extras would cost $120,000 we began to rethink whether we could accept all the compromises that we where having to make against what was not a small cost.

What finally swayed us though was that they had even added the cost of extra noggins for hand rails in toilets and showers! Surely these could have been included at no charge!

So we walked away saying thanks but no thanks and accepting the fact that we would lose our deposit.

It was disappointing but a valuable learning experience.

5 weeks later we got a pleasant surprise a cheque in the mail for a partial refund of our deposit!
